The development of technology is no longer a privilege reserved for large enterprises — small and medium-sized businesses in Latvia are increasingly adopting digital tools and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions to become more efficient and competitive.
This summer, the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) launched the programme “Support for Process Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence Solutions”, which gives companies the opportunity to modernise their processes and receive up to €200,000 in government co-financing.
Applications opened on 21 July 2025 and will continue until the funding is exhausted.
Programme Goal — Helping Companies Grow with Digital Tools
The total programme budget is €18,550,000, financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
Its goal is to promote innovation, efficiency, and export capacity in Latvian companies.
Interest in the programme is very high — by 29 September 2025, project applications had already reached a total requested support amount of €8.6 million, almost half of the entire programme budget.
This clearly shows that businesses want to digitalise and use AI not only to improve internal efficiency but also to create new markets and export opportunities.
Available funding for companies:
• Up to €200,000 – for AI solution development and implementation
• Up to €10,000 – for implementing digital tools or assessing digital maturity

By investing in automation and AI today, a company gains:
• Lower costs and more efficient processes
• Greater control over data
• Faster response to customer needs
• Competitive advantages in export markets
Svetlana El Žuni: “I see rapidly growing interest in digitalisation and AI solutions in Latvia”
And the latest data clearly proves it — the numbers speak for themselves:
• In 2024, 8.83% of Latvian companies were already using AI technologies (compared to 4.53% in 2023).
The EU average is 13.5%, which means Latvia still has strong growth potential.
• 36.9% of Latvian companies use data analytics (EU average — 33.3%), showing that business decisions are increasingly data-driven.
• E-commerce continues to grow — in 2024, 65.1% of Latvian residents shopped online, and surveys show that this number is approaching 85% of consumers within a year.
What Companies Are Digitalising Most in 2024/2025
– Marketing and sales (data analytics, automated advertising, CRM integrations)
– Customer service (chatbots, educational AI assistants, automated FAQs)
– Internal processes (invoice circulation, warehouse management, ERP/CRM connections)
– Forecasting and data security (demand prediction, fraud risk models)
Most Popular AI Technologies in Europe (2024)
• Text analysis (text mining) – used by 6.9% of companies
• Generative content (generative AI) – used by 5.4%
• Speech recognition – used by 4.8%
These technologies are increasingly being integrated into product development and customer experience — from automated responses to advanced data analysis and content generation.
Positive Trend in Latvia
Companies in Latvia are beginning to see digitalisation not as a “future project”, but as a real tool for increasing efficiency and growth.
And now is exactly the right time to take advantage of LIAA’s support for digitalisation and AI solution implementation.
